About Dr. Leia
Dr. Leia Melead is board certified and licensed Naturopathic physician and Acupuncturist. She holds two degrees: an ND or Naturopathic Doctor degree and a LAc. or Licensed Acupuncturist degree.
She completed her undergraduate studies at the State University College of New York with a BA degree in Biology and Chemistry. After college graduation, she attended the Robert Packer Hospital School of Medical Technology, earning an MT or medical technology degree. She then pursued a career as a medical technologist for 10 years before returning to school to study Naturopathic Medicine at the oldest Naturopathic medical college in the US, the National College of Naturopathic Medicine, in Portland, Oregon. After graduating from this four year natural medical program, and maintaining a private practice as a Naturopathic physician for 10 years, she then returned to school and attended the Oregon College of Oriental Medicine in Portland, Oregon. Here she received her Masters degree in Oriental Medicine and Acupuncture.
Currently Dr. Leia now maintains a private practice on the island of Kauai, in the Hawaiian Islands. She incorporates both Naturopathy and Acupuncture principles in her practice. Her areas of expertise include all phases of women’s health issues, such as menopause, PMS, and natural hormone balancing. She specializes in diet, and nutritional counseling, adrenal, and other endocrine problems, allergies, bacterial, viral, and fungal infections, and pain relief for muscular-skeletal complaints such as back, neck, shoulder, arm, elbow, wrist, knee, and foot pain for men and women of all ages. Both the modalities of Naturopathic medicine and Acupuncture work synergistically to enhance the immune system of the body, and help to assist the body to heal to optimum health. Dr. Leia has been been in private practice since 1985, and has dedicated her life to the principles of natural complementary integrative medicine.
